Concrete Mix

Concrete Mix

I am concrete that will never
harden, that is; my ideas
will never solidify to the
point that i become an
intractable absolutist
to the extent that i become
tethered to outdated beliefs
and flimsy defenses for my
worn-out opinions.

I am ready to be newly-imprinted
with the shadows and light of
nuanced perspectives that glean
brilliance and vigorous logic.

I am willing to be re-shaped
and -cast into a winnowy statue
of tolerance and adaptability.

If I was the sort of concretizing
form that insisted on early hardening,
dictating my beliefs in the youth of
my ignorance and inexperience; then
I would just crack up,
broken by resolute tenets
and unflinching determinants.

I'm glad I can still be changed, that
I accommodate divergent thoughts,
and absorb fresh waters of innovation

into the mix of concrete that I am,
the evolving thing that gets poured
but never hardens.
